Fallon Zweegers | Imitate Modern’s – Mason Storm

Fallon Zweegers, known to her followers as Fallonista, runs an art gallery on Devonshire Street, London, W1G 6PN. The name of the gallery is Imitate Modern. Fallon Zweegers enjoys the focus of urban contemporary art in her family-owned gallery.
One of her up-and-coming artists is Mason Storm. Fallon Zweegers feels that many good artists rely on creative instincts, and Mason Storm is no exception. Starting with classes at his local youth centre, Mason Storm began his artistic habit before the age of twelve. His first choice at that age originally was a cancelled judo class, but as the saying goes, “when one door closes another one opens.” Mason’s passion for art continued to grow and grow and for fifteen years he focused just on his art talent.

A barrister, a judo instructor, a body guard and even a law school graduate; but he didn’t stop there. Mason also researched and wrote on terrorism and espionage, an area that led him to a freelance intelligence analyst.

In the beginning of Mason’s artistic career, art was just a distraction from his ‘real’ jobs. Eventually, he began to be so involved in sculpture and other forms of art, his career path leaned more on the artist side.

In 2010, Mason Storm became best known for ‘Mason’s Mask’. This mask reflected both sides of his life. One side offered the high profile analysis and the focus on terrorism, the other side, his life as an artist.  The mask allowed him to separate his past career path with his current artistic one. It was his way of enforcing the fact he wanted the two worlds kept completely separate.

The mask originally started out as an announcement that Mason was planning to reveal the face of the world famous and elusive artist Banksy in an oil painting he was working on at the time.

Fallon Zweegers continues to show provocative works such as that of Mason Storm and many other fine artists at Imitate Modern. She continues to be one of the leading lights in the British contemporary art scene and will continue to bring new and fresh ideas through her blogs and other venues.

New work from Rich Simmons to be exhibited at Imitate Modern | Fallon Zweegers

From the 14th of June until the 13th of July, Imitate Modern, a gallery run by Fallon Zweegers, will be hosting a brand new collection of work from the renowned artist Rich Simmons. Entitled ‘The Inner Outsider’, the artwork included in this exhibition aims to challenge those that view it to see the world in a different light – to notice the beauty that lies within the seemingly mundane aspects of their lives.

Fallon ZweegersRich chose the title for the exhibition as he considers himself to be somewhat of an outsider in the art world, despite his success, due to the fact that he has had no formal training and is therefore primarily self-taught. Rich has stated that he hopes his artwork will encourage debate, and allow viewers to question their own perspective on life. He explained that he wants to serve as a trail blazer for an entirely new art genre – a combination of pop and street art that is inspired by imagery from decades long since past.

His use of vivid, eye catching shades like teal, scarlet red and bubble gum pink, along with black and grey images create a very unique and intriguing visual result. These tonal qualities, coupled with the use of intricate stencils which the artist draws and cuts by hand, have caused many experts in the industry to describe Rich as an exciting rising star. For this exhibition, Rich has used old posters from billboards and soaked each layer until it separates. These new-found materials are then pasted onto canvas, serving as a recycled backdrop for his stencil work, and adding texture to the finished piece.

Rich admits that many of the images included in the exhibition have a great deal of personal meaning; each one represents the fusion of the twisted with the beautiful, thus mirroring the artists own battle with autism and depression, which he is very open about. When speaking with Fallon Zweegers and others at the gallery, Rich explained that he uses art almost as a form of therapy; it allows him to express and release his emotions, and create something meaningful in the process. He adds that whilst the making of art is therapeutic for him personally, he hopes that the finished pieces will help others, by inspiring and challenging them. Fallon Zweegers can be contacted for further information on this exhibition at Imitate Modern.
